Some of the houses are famous because of the architecture while others are famous for being used in movies and tv shows. There are so many different ways that we are spoiled in Southern California but the incredible variety of homes that we can visit is truly something special. Please note that not all of the homes on this list are open to the public but I will make sure to specify which ones are available for you to visit vs which ones you can drive by.

Bring one or a couple of ballons and tie them to the fence. Share your photos with others and carry on the story of the house. There is a small house in Ballard, near the Ballard Bridge, which is completely surrounded by the gigantic walls of a shopping center. This house belonged to Edith Macefield, who wouldn’t sell the house to the developers building the Ballard Blocks shopping center.

In addition to McVay and general manager Les Snead, the draft house will typically have celebrity guests. Eric Dickerson, Rebel Wilson, Erin Andrews and Brody Jenner were photographed at the venue in 2021. The Rams have run their draft out of a draft house since 2021, though they referred to last year's location in the San Fernando Valley as a "draft lab." The Rams unveiled the lavish mansion where they will run their draft with features that include a game room, lounge, pool and covered bar. Some of the issues outlined in the report aren’t new. A city report released in 2015 criticized the multiple layers of bureaucracy and political interference at the DWP, arguing that changes were needed for stronger oversight.
Gamble House, Pasadena
This is the only Neutra designed home that is available for tours. It was first built in 1932 for Neutra and his family. It is called the research house because it was built with a loan from a patron. A fire destroyed most of the house in 1963 and was rebuilt by Neutra’s son with the Dad’s oversight. You've seen this iconic mid-century house and its view countless times in films, advertisements, and magazines. It's one of my favorite places to go in LA and especially beautiful at twlight.
A house was actually lifted by balloons once, as the video reminds us. But it was extremely tiny and gutted of everything inside. It’s a lot more like that than a real life human home with plumbing and furniture and all that kind of stuff. Still, it did get suspended into the air up to 10,000 feet. So someone made the Up fantasy come true, even if they had to cut corners to do it.

Thankfully, Carl and Ellie’s story doesn’t end there. While they’re mourning, he makes her smile by bringing out her childhood book. From then on, they joyfully start to save money for a trip to Paradise Falls. But various expenses that crop up cause them to dip into the jug of cash that they’ve set aside, and before they know it, they’ve grown old. By the time Carl finally is able to buy two plane tickets to South America, Ellie has fallen too ill to join him. The last time we see them together is when he visits her in the hospital, where Carl announces his arrival with a message in the form of a blue balloon.
Edith Macefield died in 2008 and she left the house to the person who built the new shopping center around her. There was even a Kickstarter campaign to move the house to one of the San Juan Islands and restore it to its old glory. As of today, the house sits still between the gigantic walls of the Ballard Blocks shopping center. A tall chain-link fence stops people from entering the house and trespassing but also ruins many photo opportunities. The house is covered with plywood sheets all the way around. It’s far from what it used to look like when Edith Macfield lived in the house and kept it all tidy.

This was one of the first homes I ever toured in LA and fell in love with learning about the history of the unique homes in the area. You can read more about my visits to the Gamble House here. There are so many incredible famous houses in Los Angeles.
Carl Spoke to Lindsay's Ex Everett About Their Relationship
I hope that by sharing my adventures I am able to help you discover new and exciting places in LA. John Connor lives with his foster parents at this house in Canoga Park. It isn’t the most glamorous or stunning house to visit but for fans of the movie, it can still be fun to see.

This house is in an area of the Silver Lake neighborhood called The Colony, where you'll find a number of Neutra designs on and around Neutra Place. You can see them from the outside by touring off Earl Street between Silver Lake Boulevard and Glendale Boulevard. The original structure was designed and built by architect Richard Neutra with a no-interest loan from a Dutch philanthropist.

The movie opens with the young Carl enthusing over black-and-white newsreel images of his hero, a world-famous aviator and explorer, Charles Muntz (Christopher Plummer). Like the opener of “Wall-E” and the critic’s Proustian reminiscence of childhood in “Ratatouille,” this is filmmaking at its purest. Self-guided walking tours of the exterior of Heritage Square Museum homes are currently available. You can enjoy the beauty of the homes and the gardens.
Kids, please do not attempt this at home– or in this case, with your home. Unlike most stories about leaving home, Up needed a house that would go along for the journey. The Pixar team treated Carl’s house like a film character, touring vintage Oakland and Berkeley neighborhoods to cast for the right mix of comfort and familiarity, with just a touch of melancholy. “We were trying to make Carl’s house look like your grandparents’ house smelled,” explained Producer Jonas Rivera. Ellie is an exuberant, adventurous girl who dreams of exploring the world.
This house is picturesque and has a fabulous fairytale vibe to it. Those thrills begin to peter out after the boy, Russell (Jordan Nagai), inadvertently hitches a ride with Carl, forcing the old man to assume increasingly grandfatherly duties. But before that happens there are glories to savor, notably the scenes of Carl — having decided to head off on the kind of adventure Ellie and he always postponed — taking to the air. When the multihued balloons burst through the top of his wooden house it’s as if a thousand gloriously unfettered thoughts had bloomed above his similarly squared head. Especially lovely is the image of a little girl jumping in giddy delight as the house rises in front of her large picture window, the sunlight through the balloons daubing her room with bright color.

It housed his office and two families on a small 60 x 70-foot lot. The house is located at the crest of Laurel Canyon Boulevard and Mulholland Drive and is open for guided tours by reservation only. The house is owned by the MAK Center, which also runs the Schindler House and you'll find details about the tours at the MAK Center website. Also known as La Miniatra, the Millard House is located in Pasadena and was built in 1923 and designed by iconic American architect Frank Lloyd Wright. This is the first of four houses he created in the“textile block” style in L.A. In his autobiography, Wright mentions he tried to take the cheapest and ugliest materials to create something new.
This bipartisan bill is designed to ensure federal contracting dollars intended for women-owned small businesses (WOSBs) are awarded to those firms that meet the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) small business size standards. Young calls their work one of the most detailed data sets ever collected on California's coastline, and says it could be vital to how the state addresses sea level rise in the future. And speaking of the future, the recent El Niño may be a glimpse into it. Combine that with above-normal rain, several rounds of king tides, and a couple days with some of the biggest surf we've seen in years, and it is a recipe for erosion. "A landslide, for example, can be a series of events," said Young.
Then she shoves him onto a single plank leading to his lost prize. Naturally, the board snaps in half when he takes a step and he falls and breaks his arm.
